Well, I was wrong, again. This morning I encountered a 45 minute Trico hatch/spinner fall at Beat #8, so it is not totally over. After the wind came up and subsided, there was a nice bunch of Tiny Blue Winged Olive duns and spinners, about a size 22. It was some pretty tough fishing. I was out there about 3 hours and only managed to get 8 or 9 “takes,” and landed 5 fish, nothing real big to brag about. I left when the damsels I hate took over the show.

So, it still pays to get down to the Double R Ranch early if you want to sample the last of the Tricos. The BWOs didn’t come off until about 9:30 so you can catch up on your sleep if you just want to wage war on the Baetis.
